Child soldiers

By Kosfol Kosfol

The 12th of February has been established as the World Day of Red Hand, which relates to child soldiers, estimated at 300,000. This is a phenomenon that unfortunately occurs in many countries around the world. Armed conflicts in which children take part have been recorded in Afghanistan, Philippines, e Isra and Palestinian Territories, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Angola, Burundi, Colombia, Congo, Guinea, India, Iraq, Liberia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda.
Rebel groups and government forces recruiting almost always with the violence and using children in combat. The majority are between 15 and 18 years, and there are cases enniachronon soldiers ...! Other children who live in areas where there is war, realizing that they have little chance to survive, are voluntarily.
It is easily understandable that the circumstances in which these children live in are inhumane. The absolute discipline, the harsh punishments, lack of food, water and basic sanitation, a lot of work, lack of access to health services, the fear of ambush, of course, injury and death, are the elements of everyday. Many fail to survive, others are left disabled or blind individuals and their lives changed dramatically.
This does not apply only to boys. 1 / 3 of cases concerning girls, which have the same obligations ... but are often victims of sexual abuse, while among others are forced to become «spouses» officers ... Many of the girls are infected by AIDS and other diseases, some remain pregnant and «stigmatized» from local communities.
The Red Hand day was established in 2002, when it came into force the UN treaty on rights of children in armed conflicts. It aims to raise awareness of the world on this sensitive issue.
